Mayrhofen

For the past two weeks, I have been staying a little place called Mayrhofen in Austria. I can honestly say this is one of my favourite places. I was lucky enough to make the first trip out here when I was 9 and I have been coming here ever since.

The main reason for making the trip out here is snowboarding; this is something I have been super into for a while now. Snowboarding when you’re from Cornwall? I’ll admit, it’s a little odd to be as invested in the sport as I am considering where I’m based. I always followed the pro scene when I was young; staying up to catch American streams of all the events and just feeling like I’m missing out. Don’t get me wrong, I love the sport but I am miles from that level of riding. Just before I turned 16 I got a job as a ski and snowboard technician, going on trips and selling boards on a daily basis only made me crazier about the sport. When “Never not” came out, I watched Jed Anderson’s part on repeat, playing it every day on our store TV. I fucking love that video part.

Mayrhofen is an obvious choice if you’re into snowboarding, the town is amazing, the views are beautiful and the park is heavy. During my two weeks out here we have had some hefty snow broken up by a number of blue bird days. With the snow making its way down to the village I took a few hours to hike up into the woods and I genuinely looks like something out of Narnia.
